Rules and Expectations:
1.) Be on time. You are on time when you arrive to class before the late
bell and are in your assigned seat with your instrument and music ready
by three minutes after the late bell rings.
2.) Play and handle your instrument only. For example, percussion instruments
are to be played by percussionists only. *
3.) Warm up properly. Play long tones, technical excercises, scales, and
arpeggios at a mezzo- piano dynamic. Concentrate on your tone, breathing,
embouchure, posture, rhythms, hand position, etc. as you warm up. *
4.) When we are rehearsing, only play when you are asked to play. *
5.) When the conductor stops conducting, put your instrument down and listen
carefully for instructions. *
6.) When the conductor is working on a section that is not yours, do not
talk. This is the time that you can be going over fingerings or marking
music silently.
7.) Please have all necessary materials ready for rehearsal. This includes
having music , mutes, percussion instruments, etc. ready to go.
8.) Please refrain from packing up at the end of the rehearsal until the
band director dismisses you.*
9.) You are responsible for your band music. We will use original music
at all times. You will be responsible for your own music and to turn it
in when we are finished using it. Failure to turn in the part you were
assigned will result in you paying for a new copy.
10.) Please refrain from the following: chewing gum, eating in the band
room, wearing hats or bandanas, or using cell phones. *
*Band Rehearsal And Lesson Behavior Management Procedure
First infraction = a warning is given to the student.
Second infraction = student writes what the inappropriate behavior was and returns the written statement to Mr. Horner.
Third infraction = phone call to parent/ guardian to discuss how to improve
behavior.
Fourth infraction = student is excused from the rehearsal/ lesson which
will result in a grade of zero for that rehearsal/ lesson.
