concerts. The 60% is divided in the following manner:
-----30%: Mandatory Performances (See Course Requirements)

-----10%: Rehearsal ettiquette (behavior, cooperation, etc.)
-----10%: Participation (have your instrument for rehearsals) *
*If your instrument is being repaired, please provide a note from your parent/ guardian on the day you do not have your instrument with an explanation stating why you were unable to bring your instrument.
Lessons:
1. Lessons are worth 40% of the overall grade.
2. Lessons must be made up within a week of the missed lesson or the student
will lose credit for that lesson.
3. Lessons are broken down into four parts:
-----5%: Technique: this involves scales and other various technical exercises.
-----10%: Scales: each student will be tested on scales periodically. They
will be with a metronome at a given tempo, according to level.
-----15%: Solo: every student will work on 1 solo each marking period,
which will be tested at the end of the marking period for a grade.
-----10%: Preparation: come to your lesson with your instrument and the
appropriate materials.
Practicing:
Students are encouraged to practice a minimum of 30 minutes a day. Instruments
should be brought home everyday for the purpose of practicing. Practicing
at home is an integral part of a student's development and will help improve
their overall band grade. Parents are asked to encourage children to practice
everyday and listen to their practice. If they play something particularly
well, provide positive feedback. The more positive support we provide,
the more students will get out of music.
